Hi, I’m Renee.

I am an Alberta artist and teacher. I am passionate about teaching students foundational art skills and the understanding of techniques that will allow them to create anything they would like!

Through this passion, I have created a series of courses that are designed with the educator in mind and geared for students in grades 6 and up. They are here to help make your job easier by making courses that can be implemented in the classroom TODAY. Each lesson includes:

  • Videos that will guide, show, and inform your students

  • Projects that allow students to practice the skills I teach in the videos

  • Easy-to-use rubrics

  • Alberta Education curriculum links

You are busy enough so let me teach your students art!

Once this form is filled out and submitted the password for the courses will appear. Please save this password right away as it will not be emailed to you or be available anywhere else!
Of course, if you lose the password you can sign up again to receive it or email me at info@reneegould.ca

WHAT’S IN THE ACADEMY?

01

The Sketchbook

In this module, you will learn how to set up a Sketchbook practice in your classroom, why it’s awesome, and how to mark it.

02

Drawing

In this module, I’m going to show your students everything they need to set up the foundations for a good drawing. The result? Students who are confident and have procedures to draw complex images.

03

Value

Students will learn the importance of value and how to create different forms of value to give objects three-dimensionality that looks realistic.

04

Alberta Curriculum

Here I have laid out every single Alberta art curriculum outcome (GLO’s & SLO’s) in a spreadsheet so you can easily identify which outcomes are met with every project you run in your classroom. (Includes gr. k-12)!

Want to actually teach students how to draw?

People are constantly sending me process videos for pretty art projects that they found on Youtube, Tiktok, Pinterest...etc. I call them pretty because the final product is always pretty and everyones project looks the same. The art teacher in me cringes a little bit at these projects because;

What did the students actually learn?

How does this project show the student’s personality or individuality?

At what point does art class become craft class?

What I have found over the years of teaching students art is that they have a limited understanding of the true foundations that are needed to create great art and little to no skills, which leaves the students with limiting beliefs about themselves.

At Renee Gould Art Academy, I am starting at the very beginning with students. I am having them practice very basic skills that are the foundation for any form of art creation. The academy slowly walks students through the skills needed to draw anything that they would like. It gives them a foundational understanding of the actual skills needed and ample practice.

Questions Your Fellow Peers Asked Before Diving Into Renee Gould Art Academy

  • Renee Gould Art Academy is a self-paced program, meaning you can invest as many or as few hours each week as your schedule allows. A good rule of thumb would be 2-3 hours per week dedicated to watching the lessons and putting them into action.

  • Like a strong, solid foundation of a house, creating a solid foundation for your students will enable them to make smart, strategic, and focused decisions as they start drawing in the months and years to come. Everything they learn in this program will show them how to expertly organize and systematize their drawing so that they can get going quickly.

If you have students who are already artistic, they’ll still be challenged by the concepts taught and provided with deeper insight.

This program is the perfect fit for you whether you just got assigned to teach art class, or if you’ve been at it for a while. It provides step by step insight about how to create great art.

Remember, this is an intense course that requires students to have sustainable focus, resiliency, creativity, will power, and problem solving skills. I reccomend this program for grades 6+, but each student and each classroom is different.

  • Overwhelm happens when you try something new…when you don’t know how to do it, or how hard it will be, or what that might mean for your time and energy. How are we going to tackle that?

    -An easy-to-follow plan.

-Just getting started and trying it.

I created Renee Gould Art Academy to be the direct opposite of overwhelm. In fact, I created it because I hear teacher’s express feelings of being overwhelmed by art class and I want to relieve that feeling. Renee Gould Art Academy was created to help you build an organized art class and be the ultimate guide to setting up and organizing your art class with a simplified process to avoid overwhelm and save you time in planning, prepping, creating, and linking to the curriculum.

  • I do offer a 15-day refund period for purchases. If the program is not for you, simply tell me and I'll issue you a complete refund within 30 days. More information can be found in the Terms and conditions found at the bottom of this page.

Did you just get assigned to teach art, looked at the curriculum, and now have not a clue what to do or what it all means?!

Art class is not like your core subjects when it comes to students’ knowledge base. In core subjects, it is safe to assume, for the most part, that students come to you with a certain skill set and that you can build on that skill set throughout the year.

In art, students seem to come to us with a wide array of skills and yet, no definite set of skills. Also, the curriculum is vague and uses difficult wording that can be interpreted in different ways. This leaves us, teachers, wondering what projects to do and where to start.

Renee Gould Art Academy gives you a place to start and fill in the gaps of missed knowledge. If students have already learned something or have a strong skill set in one of the areas, you can easily choose to have the students practice the skill more or just move on to the next lesson. Use the lessons that you need in your classroom. The lessons are scaffolded so that you can easily take what you need and leave what you don’t without scrambling to make plans, rubrics, and curricular links.
