ABOUT ME
Fun fact: I come from a long line of horse-loving folks!
Hi!
I’m Renee Gould.
I’m an Alberta-based artist, shaped by the Western agricultural lifestyle and the quiet, steady rhythms of rural life. I live among working horses, livestock, and land that asks something of you every day. This is the world I know best. My home, my family, and my community aren’t separate from my work, they are the work.
At the heart of my work is community. My paintings are rooted in the stories and folk legends of the cowgirl, inspired by the women around me—friends, neighbors, family, and the generations of women who came before us. Their lives, like mine, are made up of hard days and quiet victories, of loneliness and deep connection. I’m drawn to that truth: that life can be demanding and still be beautiful because of the people who walk through it with us.
Art and horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up riding, training, and learning across multiple disciplines, spending years in barns, pastures, and arenas. Those early experiences taught me how to pay attention to the animals, to people, to what isn’t always said out loud. Today, I paint from that place of knowing, finding beauty and comfort in the shared, ordinary moments of rural life.
Through my art, I’m always reaching toward connection. I want my work to feel like recognition—a reminder that we are not alone, that we belong to something larger than ourselves. I believe strength often shows up as kindness, resilience, and the courage to share our stories. That’s what I’m painting, again and again: the bonds that hold us, and the quiet power found in standing together.
